52)On Sep.2 Professor Robert Layton, from the University of Durham and Dr. Xu Biao, from Nanjing Normal University accompanied by Vice Director of Scientific Research Institute Tang Jialu started their fieldwork in Shandong province. During this fieldwork they did some investigations about wood-block new year picture, New years picture made by ash, kite, clay toy, printed cloth and woven flower cloth, etc. They spent 1 week for this work.
Professor Robert Layton looked about the production process of each handicraft and he asked some questions about the situation of production of handicraft and the way of passing down. President Pan Lusheng went to Linyi to accompany Professor Layton for the visiting on Sep.5. Professor Layton said that he was very glad to know so many things about Chinese folk handicrafts and this will be very valuable for the exchange visit and cooperation between Shandong University of Art and Design and the University of Durham. At last Professor Layton said that he would try his best to do works for the Chinese folk handicraft protection and the improvement of living conditions of Chinese folk handicraftsmen.
53)The Chinese artist Ms Wang Chunli from Sweden paid Shandong University of Art and Design a visit on Sep.23 2005. Ms Wang was engaged as the guest professor of Shandong University of Art and Design in March 2005. During the visit Ms Wang Chunli made an academic report on “Arts of the whole world and its signification” to the faculty and students. The head of Department of Fine Arts Prof.Chen Feilin hosted this academic report meeting. Ms Wang introduced the background of modern arts, the concept of modern arts and the development track of modern arts. She emphasized the relations between modern arts and technology, modern arts and media, the internationalism of modern arts and mainland languages and modern life, and also the signification of them, especially.
After the report meeting, Ms Wang Chunli visited the museum of our school and the laboratories of each department. Ms Wang said that this visit left her a very good impression, she will visit our school and give lectures regularly in future, and introduce European artists and institutions to our school to carry out the cooperation and exchange. She wish that she would make more contribution to the development of Shandong University of Art and Design.
54)On July 27, 2005 a 26-member delegation led by Zhang Zhouxi, vice-president of Kyungwoon University arrived at Shandong University of Art and Design (SUAD). The vice-president and his staff had a friendly talk with president Pan Lusheng, vice-president Li Xin, and Zhang Yunlong of SUAD in the morning for better understanding and academic exchange between the two universities in the field of art and design. After the talk, Korea and China Interchange Exhibition for Education took place on campus of SUAD. At the opening ceremony of the exhibition, presidents and deans from both sides gave warm speeches, marking the new development stage of cultural exchange between China and Korea, and demonstrating their confidence in further cooperation. Professors and students from the two universities, and people concerned or interested from other universities ， institutions, or museums were present on this special occasion, which also attracted reporters from local newspaper, television stations, and magazines. A large number of works by students from the two universities were shown at the exhibition, and after that, an informal talk was held between students and teachers from both sides. They believed SUAD and Kyungwoon University would embrace a more brilliant future by cooperating with each other in various ways in the years to come.
